Claas Hendrik Meiners painted a landscape in Aalden in 1878. He was born in 1819 and trained at the B.C. Koekoek school for painters. To some extent he belonged to the earlier romantic period. However, because he lived in Oosterbeek, the Dutch Barbizon, his work is reminiscent of that of his contemporaries who were influenced by the new movement. He died in 1894 and was therefore already established when he painted the view of Aalden.
