Trained at the Minerva Academy in Groningen and then teaching at the same academy until his retirement, Evert Musch was a true Drenthe painter who played an important role in the cultural life of the province. As a landscape painter he could truly express himself in Drenthe but sometimes he also had to reach for his brush to prevent that landscape from being destroyed. It is partly due to his efforts that the Drentse Aa river still meanders and the Schipborger Strubben did not become a military training ground.
