Painter, drawing artist and graphic designer, Jacob Kuijper received his drawing diploma in 1930. He taught drawing for advertising purposes at the Minerva Academy in Groningen from 1951-1971 and later became a part-time drawing teacher working in Alkmaar and Bergen. As a graphic designer he worked for Verblifa Krommenie (cigars) and others creating advertising and designing packaging. From 1955 he was a member of the Drents Schildersgenootschap (Drenthe Artists’ Society) and renowned for his etchings, copper engravings and woodcuts, mainly for bookplates. He painted a great deal, later focusing on watercolours and landscape drawings done in Drenthe and elsewhere. He also designed book covers. All in all, a highly versatile artist.
