Jan Bazuin worked in Aalsmeer. He studied together with Kees Verwey, Poppe Damave and Leen Spierenburg under the renowned teacher Henri Frederique Boot at the Haarlem Art Academy. Some years later he moved to Drenthe. His studio in Wezuperbrug he described as his own paradise. He painted flowers, portraits and still lifes in his distinctive rich use of colour. His nudes express intense feeling and show a remarkably high level of skill. He attached great importance to the craftsmanship of painting. With his own artistic vision of impressionism he managed to create a niche for himself within this movement.
